Lust is a strong desire for sex or anything with passion. Lust is a sin that could lead to several other sins: war and sexual immorality.
Dearly beloved, I beseech you as aliens and exiles, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul, 1 Pet 2:11.
Lust could lead to the sin that is against the body – fornication. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body, 1 Cor 6:18.
In all these things, how can we overcome lust? By deliverance: we pray unto the Lord and cast away the evil spirit of lust. We also ask the Lord for his grace. After we have been delivered by faith through Christ Jesus, grace is always important. For temptation may not be overcome without grace; for we cannot stand on our own. By Whom, through faith, we also have access into this grace wherein we stand and rejoice in the hope of the glory of God, Rom 5:2.
So we do not continue wallowing in sin: but repent and sin no more, as our Lord Jesus told the woman that committed adultery. As we are given the grace to stand, we also strive to overcome the sin that besets or troubles us. We no longer lust but love, not thinking evil of our fellow human; for love thinketh no evil and worketh no ill to his neighbour, thereby fulfilling the law of Christ.
There is the benefit that comes with enduring temptation – the crown of life which God gives to them that love him. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him, James 1:12.
