There was a certain man in the Bible, whose people besieged Jesus asking that his servant be healed. They reported what he did for them. Despite him being a sinner, his deed and love for the people were remembered by them:
The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, “This man deserves to have you do this, because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue,” Luke 7:3-5.
Whether you are from the Greek or Jewish nation, the love of God transcends self, and the love of God constrains us, as it is written. Love your people, and your neighbour as yourself; for faith and love availeth much, according to the Gospel.
It is also good to have a good report. The people reported good about the man, who loved their nation. There are benefits to this: the Lord heard their cry and granted their request.
In another place, Cornelius was a man whose deed for the people was also remembered: at Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in what was known as the Italian Regiment. He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly, Acts 10:1-2.
As it is stated, Cornelius and his family were devout and God-fearing. He practised generous giving to the needy and prayed regularly to God. In whatever we do, it is commanded that we practise love in deed and truth, 1 John 3:18. Also, praying to God without ceasing and doing all that is written in the Word of God is a commandment. These we do by God’s gracious help.
May the grace of God be with us to practise the Word, according to the good pleasure of Our Saviour Lord Jesus Christ.
